| Hello, welcome to a simpler thyme...when candle glow was ever present, bread was baking in the olde ovens, herbs were drying in the barn, and life was back to basics......Welcome to PRIMITIVE THYMES, PURVEYOR OF ALL THAT IS PRIMITIVE. My name is Karen Boulay....proprietor of Primitive Thymes, a shoppe that takes you back to a simpler thyme...back to prairie days when dolls were made by hand, candles were a must have, make-do's actually were used and olde bowls with patches were used to mix the bread...I have always had a love of antiques and old fashioned design...my parents taught our family at an early age to appreciate what was used before us and to preseve the past...my dream to preserve the past is ever present when you enter our home and shoppe. I always had a dream to own my own simple, warm, cozy and inviting shoppe, featuring hand made in America true primitive items for others to enjoy - Twelve years ago - that dream became a reality when I purchased a Circa 1840, two room schoolhouse known as the Hillsville School #7. We are located fifteen minutes North of historic Sturbridge, Massachusetts in the quaint country town of Spencer, Massachusetts. The shoppe started in two rooms and over thyme has evolved into six rooms. Each room has been painstakingly restored with the look and feel of yesteryear, aged walls, smoked ceilings, flannel curtains hung on twine, candles in the windows, prairie dolls at every turn, tin and iron items, reproduction furniture, cupboards and so much more - all designed to the 1600's to early 1900's period and all handmade in America. My husband Rich also enjoys the olde thyme treasures and comforts and works with me in the everyday workings of the shoppe. The aroma of herbs and candles envelopes you as you enter our wooden door and escape to the past - even if only for a while - if you are in the area please stop by and visit. But in the mean time, make that cup of tea, sit and go back in thyme as you enjoy a simpler life at Primitive Thymes. we hope you enjoy your visit and come back often - where you are always welcome.
